On this page I will list all my Felt tutorials.
Feel free to felt along!

The garden gnomes

This is a little tutorial how to felt various gnomes.
Even children with a little help are able to felt these little guys.
These here watch over the flowers, the vegetables, scrubs and the farm animals
I am sure you have many other gnome ideas
so here is how to start:

First you have to roll and twist the carded dry wool to a big sized chicken egg.
Make it as firm as possible.
Dip it into soapy water, hold it firmly together but NEVER squeeze the water out.

Next lay little flocks of your desired color of wool over it until everything is covered.
Wet it again and start gently to felt.
The more durable it gets the stronger you can handle it.
Dip it in hot soapy water from time to time.

These are different bodies notice the dent in the middle of the bottom.
This is for a better standing.

The heads start out the same way as the bodies just as big as a table tennis ball, the noses much smaller

These are various hat shapes the one on top is for the pig and carrot hat
The one on the bottom left the cap for the scrub gnome the one on the right is going to be the flower hat.

For the pig hat you have to cover your template with a layer of wool turn it around.
fold in the overlap and put some wool down on this side.
Then add the ears: lay out the wool on both sides of the hat wet it and fold in shape.
Put bubble wrap over it when starting the felting process. Bubbles always facing toward the wool!
The carrot hat is even easier it doesn't have ears!
For the flower hat you have to lay out a green layer of wool.
Place your template with the whole over it.
Then cover it with another layer of your desired flower color.

Cover with bubble wrap when starting the felting process!
Rub the center where the both colors join a long time so they won't come apart.
After a while you can take away the template.

To become a flower hat you have to cut in the center a tiny whole widen it with your fingers.
(It goes easily when it is still wet)
Place it on top of your head, cut the pedals in shape or leave it like that.

When the felting is done rinse all parts in clear water!!!
You can either sew or glue everything together with a hot glue gun.
It even glues when the objects are wet.

Eyes and hair is dry felted with the felting needle.

Happy Easter!

Dear readers,
I hope you have  wonderful easter holidays many eggs to search for under the snow.
Here is a little tutorial . For Egg warmers to keep boiled eggs on the breakfast table warm and cosy! While you are out for the egg hunt!
They are fast to make and even for kids easy to do. So just a nice easter project for grey afternoons like today.

First you need to trace the pattern on to the material your template should be cut out of.
I regularly use foot fall sound insulation, that is the stuff that is used underneath a parquet floor, but you can also use milk carton for example or bubble wrap.

Next you have to layer your wool over your template covering the whole thing, remember to leave some overlap. Wet with soapy water and gently press down.  Turn template over, fold in the edges (overlap) and repeat to layer the center with wool. Wet again gently press down.
Then again cover on the same side the whole template  with wool this time with overlap!
wet, press down and turn . Don't forget to fold over the edges!!
Lay a layer wool in the middle.
Now you should have two layers of wool on each side.
Use small amount of skin colored wool to cover up the face. When you are planning to do the sheep you need to lay uncombed wool onto your template as a last touch.
When you are done cover your project with bubble wrap, bubbles facing towards the wool! and start to rub gently. If the hands are not gliding  just wet the plastic with soapy water a little bit!
When the wool has shrunken and is tight around your template you can cut  it open and remove the inside.
Now you have to squeeze an roll the egg cozy for quit some time until it is quite durable.

Rinse until all the soap is out!

For the ears you just have to lay out two layers of wool in your desired color. ( 10 cm x 3 cm long)
Wet it , cover with bubble wrap and massage until it holds together.
Squeeze out the excess water and roll in your hands until it is firm.
Rinse in clear water!

With a hole punch in a small setting punch two holes in your animal.
With a crochet hook get your ear stripe through.
Cut in shape.

Stuff carded wool in your animal head and pinch with a felting needle the eyes and nose.

The cheeks get a little rose touch with a water-color pencil, ribbon and finished!!
